I have done my "30 Days" for the past two years on FaceBook and am glad to be doing it again this year. This year I decided to break it down in my blog, as well. and add a little extra thoughts to my thanks for the day. Though I am thankful throughout the year for so much, this fairly new tradition of mine has really helped me to reflect on each day and acknowledge all that I have to be thankful for. Honestly, most days I have a hard time narrowing it down to just one (or two) things. And on those days it helps me realize that I have SO VERY MUCH to be thankful for. I am blessed so much more than I deserve!
So, here are my first 10 days of my 30 Days of Thanks. Keep in mind that the whole 30 are in no particular order...just something that stood out from the day. Here goes:
Day 1: Today I am thankful for my little family of four and the wonderful memories that we're making this year.
**This is the thing that I am always most thankful for! I could list it each and every day and thank God daily for this most treasured blessing!
My little fam of four--last November. The boys have grown so much in the past year! |
**Oh, how I love my friends! Old & new, near & far...and I just don't get to see enough of them!! A night out with two of my besties was just what I needed here. Love you, Kris & Wen!
Day 3: Today I am thankful for naps. It's not often that this Momma gets one, but today I got to nap for two hours! I loved every minute of it :)
**This rarely happens, but last Saturday I just went in bedroom, laid down and went to sleep! So refreshing.
Day 4: Today I am thankful for my friends Kenny Howell and Katy Howell and the football party they're throwing so that we can watch the Titans get decimated by the Bears. Go Team! #alwaysafan
**My friend Kenny jokes that the first year I was thankful for Diet Coke and People Magazine before I was thankful for him. So, he made day 4 this year :)
Day 5: Today I am thankful for the simple things that help me unwind at the end of the day: my fuzzy leopard print blanket, trash TV, and brownies. I love brownies.
**Ya know, sometimes it's just the simple things. I never feel like I have completed my day until I have my "me" time on the couch. I should really leave the brownies out of it though. Two pans in two weeks. Shameful.
Day 6, Part 1: Today I am thankful that I live in a country where everyone's vote counts no matter what their sex, race, religion, or political affiliation.
**Always thankful for my right to vote in this free country, but especially on Election Day.
Day 6, Part 2: Today I am thankful that after tonight all this politickin' will be over!!!!
**Seriously. I was over all the politics a LONG TIME AGO. I can appreciate people being passionate about their beliefs, ideals, and politics. But so much of the passion I saw was laced with anger, bitterness, and hate. I would have loved to have seen more respect and kindness shown.
Day 7: Today I am thankful for my two healthy boys. After catching up on blogs and emails today, I've seen the updates from a few friends whose children are currently battling disease or searching for answers to health issues. I cannot even fathom the strength that it must take for a parent to watch their child face illness and know that there is nothing they can do to take it away. And the children are some of the bravest and strongest I will ever know.
**A friend of Justin's and mine has a daughter who is facing cancer for the second time. She turns 10 tomorrow. I hope and pray for a day when we will have a CURE for this awful disease (and so many others). Words cannot say how thankful I am for the health of my children.
Day 8: Today I am thankful for my little preschool friends. They sure do keep me busy on Tuesdays and Thursdays! And they're so much fun :)
**My 11 little four and five year old friends at Mother's Day Out are helping my teaching itch. While I love being home, I sure miss being in my classroom, too! Especially this time of year.
Day 9: Today I am thankful for Fridays (woot! woot!) and family traditions. Looking forward to Christmas Village with my big sister today!! Let's get this show on the road, A!
**Every student I have ever had will tell you that Friday is my favorite day of the week! I always do the Friday dance (woot! woot!) Plus, it fell on one of my favorite days--Christmas Village with my sister! We've been going for the past 6 years. Great way to kick off the holiday season!
Day 10: Today I am thankful for gorgeous fall weather! After the harsh, brutal summer I am always ready for autumn. The crisp air, cooler weather, and the colors (OH, THE COLORS!) renew my mind and spirit. So thankful for this time of year!
**All week Chandler and I have been watching the leaves fall. The maples are just too gorgeous right now! Most of my favorite memories from childhood are in the fall. Just love it.
